Cinematographer and Documentary Storyteller – About Peter Gunnebro
I am Peter Gunnebro, a cinematographer dedicated to visual storytelling through documentary film and photography. Based in Sweden, I work locally, nationally, and internationally under my brand DP Film & Photo.
For me, cinematography is about much more than just creating beautiful images. It is about seeing people, understanding their world, and building the trust required for them to reveal something genuine in front of the lens. I am drawn to stories rooted in reality—capturing unique lives, cultures, passions, and those rare moments that are best portrayed entirely without a script.
Experience and Life Journeys
The path that led me here has given me a broad and diverse background, enriched by international life experiences. As a teenager, I lived in Tanzania for a few years—a formative time that sparked my early curiosity about the world and laid the foundation for my interpersonal intuition.
This international perspective shapes my entire career and has given me a unique ability to quickly adapt to and understand different cultures, people, and environments:
- Feature-Length Documentary & Creative Leadership: For the past three years, I have served as the cinematographer and creative director for a feature-length documentary exploring the history of Sweden’s oldest jazz club (established in 1949), developed in collaboration with the regional film fund Film i Dalarna as a co-production partner. This long-term project has solidified my ability to steer large-scale documentary productions—from cultivating deep, lasting relationships with subjects over time, to preserving and visually capturing a vital piece of cultural history.
- Empathy and Fieldwork in the Arctic: For a period, I worked with EU-funded educational projects in Iceland and Greenland, focusing on flexible learning for adult students with neurodevelopmental disorders. It was work that required immense empathy, patience, and presence—qualities that directly benefit my work behind the camera today. During my time in Greenland, I was also responsible for documenting our project work through film and photography in the field.
- International Productions and Versatility: My relationship with the US ranges from studying music in the 1980s and commercial assignments within the motorcycle industry, to being on location in 2024 to shoot for the documentary about the Swedish country artist Andreas "Don Redmon" Johansson and his story.
- Documenting Military Veterans: On numerous occasions, I have been commissioned by the Swedish Veterans Federation (Sveriges Veteranförbund) to document the powerful stories of international veterans from all corners of the world, including during United Nations Day. In this work, I have contributed both film and photography to amplify their personal lives and experiences. I was also on location in Cyprus to document a major reunion for UN veterans—an assignment that demanded the outmost presence, empathy, and discretion. Currently, I am actively developing several ongoing projects in this niche, including a series of short veteran portraits/mini-documentaries, as well as a documentary film focusing on Veterans Day (Veterandagen).
My Services
These combined experiences have given me a deep understanding of both the profoundly human and the logistically challenging—insights that I bring into my specialized visual services today:
- Documentary Cinematographer (DoP) & Steadicam: I combine technical precision with a strong visual intuition for unscripted storytelling. My gear kit includes a Steadicam, which I use selectively when it serves the story—for instance, to smoothly follow a person in motion and heighten the visual emotion of a specific scene.
- Documentary Still Photography: I frequently complement film projects with professional still photography, focusing on portraits, reportage, and behind-the-scenes (BTS) images that capture an authentic presence.

I look forward to contributing my photographic eye, deep commitment, and experience to your next project—whether for an extended production or a time-limited, project-based assignment. As a team player, I always strive to be a reliable, solution-oriented resource that elevates the entire crew.
